Imagine landing in Taiwan Taoyuan Airport and it is 10:00pm. Between making it through immigration, checking into your Taipei hotel and getting spritzed up for a night at Omni, there isn’t much time for food. Sure, you can make a quick dash to 7-Eleven and be a convenience store baller because everything is closed at 12am. Hell, we’ve done that countless times, but remember this is your first meal in Taiwan. Better make it count.

Thanks to ET Today, they’ve inspired us to put together our own list of the best late night eateries all across Taipei. While not all are open 24 hours, the selections below should be more than satisfying right before your night club romp.

“Small” Eats

For visitors, if you have never heard of 東引小吃店 (Dong Yin Xiao Chi Dian), then you’ll never find this joint. The alley way that the shop is located in looks sketch as hell. But, Taiwan has some of the lowest crime rate in the entire world, so your chances of getting stabbed is essentially, nil. The name of the game is small eats, which is a loose term that encompasses all that is delicious in Chinese food. Spicy noodles, cold tofu and the works. You’ll be busting out of your clubbing shirt in no time.

Chinese Food

Literally, the shop is called Ah Chai Milkfish Stomach. Although the restaurant needs a better name, the food here is on point. Fried fish and minced pork rice are quintessentially Taiwanese. Coming here would be a great start to your visit to this island country and the optimal jumping off point for a night of guzzling whiskey with green tea.

Cold Noodles

傳說中很好吃的涼麵

Don’t sleep on the concept of cold noodles. While they may not look like much, they are straight fuego. These noodles are coated in peanut sauce and sesame oil and topped off with thin slices of cucumbers to add some color pop to it. Locals flock to Chen Family Cold Noodles right when the clubs let out, so make sure you can jostle your way in here. One bite and you’ll know why.

Since Mama Liu’s Cold Noodle(this place) is so similar to the above, Chen Family Cold Noodles. We wont’ go into any details as the two are pretty much interchangeable. Basically everything there can be applied to 劉媽媽涼麵’s.

Fu De Cold Noodles is another cold noodles shop. At this point, with this being the third late night cold noodles place, it is fair to say that the Taiwanese love late nights and cold noodles.  The added option here is that there is an optional fish ball with egg soup that adds some “moisture” to the dry noodles.

Hei Mei Lin(黑美林) is the jack of all trades when it comes to late night in Taipei. They offer a slew of dishes including barbecue, hot dishes, cold favorites, hot pot, veggies and the requisite noodle and rice dishes. With the shop’s location in the highly residential district of Neihu, you’ll only find the most in-the-know locals here. So if you are a visitor, you best come with your Google Translate app ready to roll.

四鄉五島馬祖麵食館 or Matsu Noodles as they are known on their website. Is much more than a noodle soup that serves regional favorites from the Taiwanese island of Matsu. Because of Matsu’s close proximity to Fuzhou, China, you’ll find many similarities in preparation style and ingredients. As a result, this 24 hour eatery brings a far flung island flair to the local Taipei scene.
