Even though we don’t get what you Easterners call “seasons” in San Francisco, we do have other dead giveaways to let us know that is fall. Of which, Buzzfeed did a pretty good job of it with their post “25 Things All Basic White Girls Do During the Fall,” which is absolutely true. While that list is pretty cool, in the last couple of years, Foodamentals has been using the SPSL indicator to tell us when the summer to fall crossover actually happens. SPSL being the “Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte” availability date.
Pumpkin Spice Latte has become such an integral part of fall that we are now starting to see it in anything and everything ranging from PSL Four Loko to Pringles Pumpkin Pie Spice chips. So the staff at Foodamentals wanted to get in the holiday spirit by trying out Oreo’s newest flavor – the limited edition Pumpkin Spice Creme sandwich cookies.
Starting off with presentation, the cookies don’t look physically any different from regular Oreo’s outside of the color scheme. The orange filling is speckled with some darker brown(which I’m assuming to be cinnamon) and the cookies are slightly orange/yellow color.
Surprisingly… these cookies aren’t that bad. The combination of lightly spiced cinnamon with the soft texture of Oreo creme was pretty satisfying. Usually I’m not a fan of Oreos since after a while, the creme texture reminds me of rolling a bunch of gravel on a chalkboard, but I didn’t really get that from this pumpkin spice version. The cookies did add to the overall experience, but it is pretty evident the focal point is the creme.
I’m usually not a fan of sweets, so I did feel that the cookies were a bit too much for me, especially after I ate 12 of them(yes, self control obviously isn’t my strong suit). But I’m sure if you had a glass of milk, you can easily offset the sweetness pretty easily.
If you like pumpkin spice and you like cookies, this is will be a very satisfying option for you. At a price between $4 and $5, it’s not a bad way of getting your fix.
