In a sane world, no should be actively trying to go to jail. In Seoul, not so much. Bangbum Pocha is a theme restaurant located in the hip Itaewon area of Seoul. Eaters are invited to dine in the facade of an old time Korean jail where the decor elicits old time jail aesthetics from the old war days. The three owners of Bangbum Pocha sourced the artifacts from the Korea Seodaemun Prison Institute, adding an air of authenticity to the entire experience.

Drab and moody, the surroundings gives you an air of drabness but also, intimacy for the small footprint that this restaurant takes up.

With such a faithful recreation, you’d expect them to serve some pretty sad looking fares. Quite the contrary. Their cuisine can be best expressed as “homeward nostalgic”  and are both bright, flavorful and colorful. Because seats are rather limited in this small, intimate setting.  Better to come here early as people pack the place until 8:00pm. In the meantime, check out their Instagram for some mind blowing pictures.
