A lot of fast food fans love to get nostalgic about Burger King. How can they not? After all, BK was the refuge of great tasting charbroiled burgers in a fast food landscape otherwise infested by McDonald’s relatively bland burger offerings. Burger King could be counted on to add a bit more taste and variety to an otherwise flat, lifeless, and oh-so-predictable fast food landscape littered by the likes of such brands as McDonalds, Wendy’s, Taco Bell, and KFC. Of course, things changed for the better when Chipotle entered the scene but I’m getting ahead of myself.
Anyway, BK kind of fell of these past few years. Thanks for healthier, leaner, and seemingly more robust players like Chick Fil-A, Chipotle, and Five Guys, Burger King is one fast food brand that’s increasingly looking like its best years are behind it.
Imagine my surprise when I read that BK rolled out a ‘beef fondue’ for its Japanese outlets. Now, that’s the BK we’ve come to love and respect! You take a BK hamburger and you dunk it into the cheese fondue dip. Great way to get your cheese fix for the day. There’s even a chicken fondue available.
Which cheeses go into the BK beef fondue? We’re talking a very decent roster from the cheese world. In other words, there’s no mystery cheese aka processed dairy wonder present in BK’s fondue. The Swiss inventors of fondue would be proud: BK’s fondue dip is a combination of emmental, gouda, cheddar, mozzarella, and parmesan cheese. To round out the fondue’s flavor, the whole concoction is stewed to rich, creamy, and nuanced goodness in white wine. What a great way to take the taste of a burger to the stratosphere than dunking it into this heavenly cheese sauce? Apparently, the sauce made such an impact that it’s available as a separate dip you can buy for only 250 yen.
Besides dunking beef or chicken into your fondue dip, try pairing it up with onion rings or BK’s own renowned french fries.
If you’re ready to sink your teeth into the BK beef fondue-a great sandwich featuring a blended black pepper beef patty in a bun with vegetables or chicken nuggets on a bun with a tomato, you better hurry. You don’t want to miss this gastronomic train. BK is running this special promotion from Jan 9 to the end of February. Of course, such awesomeness like this will only be available in Japan. Damn.
